Shelby Williams England of Fort Worth, Texas, formerly of Waxahachie, died on Dec. 17, 2012, at home surrounded by his family.
Shelby was born in Magnolia, Ark. on Feb. 21, 1939, to the late Loy D. and Natalie Williams England. Shelby graduated from Magnolia High School, attended Southern Arkansas University and the University of Texas at Austin. He served in the U.S. Army, rising to the rank of E-5. After his military service, Shelby enjoyed a long career in the insurance field.
Shelby was married for 36 years to Nancy Williams England of Waxahachie.
A loving and devoted husband and father, Shelby is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter, Robin and husband, Clay of Robert Lee, Texas, daughter, Kimberly of Santa Monica, Calif.; son, David and fiancé, Roberta of Bedford, Texas and son, Charles of Denver, Colo. Shelby is also survived by granddaughter, Shannon and husband Cody of Sanger, Texas; grandson, Kevin of Midland, Texas; and grandson, Ethan of Frisco, Texas; his first great-grandson, Canton of Sanger, Texas; many nieces; nephews and many extended family members.
Shelby was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother and sister-in-law, Loy David and Penny England.
Shelby and Nancy were active members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Waxahachie, where Shelby was the editor of the church newsletter. The church and his Christian faith were at the forefront of Shelby’s life from an early age. He served as an acolyte throughout his youth at St. James Episcopal Church in Magnolia, Ark.. He also enjoyed serving as a Little League baseball coach in Waxahachie when his children were young.
A life-long Arkansas Razorback fan, Shelby’s knowledge of sports scores and stats was without equal. Shelby was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers fan, and followed both college and professional football and baseball teams across the country. However, Arkansas always came first with him, as evidenced by his ever-present Razorback ball cap!
A service in celebration of Shelby’s life will be held at Restland Coppell Chapel, 400 S. Freeport Pkwy, Coppell, Texas, at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012. Following the service, an informal gathering will take place at 12:00 noon in the Resident Clubhouse of Heritage Park Vista, 8729 Ray White Rd, Fort Worth, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity or your choice.
The England family wishes to thank the caregivers of the Oncology Ward of Baylor Grapevine, Sunrise Home Health and Vitas Innovative Hospice Care for their loving and attentive care for Shelby. The family joins everyone in giving thanks for Shelby’s life and accomplishments.
