The following resolution was passed Thursday, Dec. 13 by the Ellis County Republican Party Executive Committee:

RESOLUTION

To all who read these presents, greetings.

WHEREAS:  The primary function of the Ellis County Republican Party is to elect candidates who embrace the principles articulated by the Republican Party of Texas in our platform, and…

WHEREAS: The grassroots Republicans of this county have worked tirelessly, both in the County and across the great State of Texas to elect conservative Republicans, only to have a small minority (11) of those Republicans confer with 65 democrats in the selection of Speaker of the House during the 81st Legislature , thereby negating the hard work of its grass roots, and…

WHEREAS: The current Speaker, Joe Straus, then awarded chairmanships to all but 1 of the 11 Republican Representatives who supported him, and several Democratic Representatives to the remaining Chairmanships, and…

WHEREAS: Joe Straus continued the practice of awarding chairmanships to Democrats during the 82nd legislature and punished several of those House members who voted against him through redistricting, and…

WHEREAS:   In the 2010 elections we worked hard to achieve the goal of increasing our Conservative Republican Representation in the State House from 76 to 101 seats.  In the 2012 elections we held on to a very strong majority, and…

WHEREAS:   Through his political stance on issues as important to us as Right to Life, and the definition of a marriage as being between a man and a woman, he has strayed from our principles .  Given the fact that he has in the past voted in favor of gay adoption and gay foster parenting and is on record saying “I support existing laws as they relate to abortion”(Jan 2009), he has apparently rejected our party’s principles as spelled out in our Republican Platform, and…

WHEREAS: Joe Straus has refused to sign on to the Texas Budget Compact which favors a balanced budget and limited spending for the 83rd session, and…

WHEREAS: In 2010, Joe Straus campaigned for a Democrat, Patrick Rose when he ran against Republican, Jason Isaac, in State District 45. Therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED: That we, the Ellis County Republican Party, speaking through our Executive Committee, do hereby expect and urge Republican Representatives from across the Great State of Texas, including Representative Jim Pitts, to caucus prior to the commencement of the vote for Speaker to elect a new Speaker who more accurately reflects the principles of our Party, as stated in the 2012 Texas Republican Party Platform,   and…

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:  That a copy of this resolution be delivered to each Republican member and member elect of the Texas House of Representatives.

Respectfully Submitted this 13 day of December, 2012.

Danny L. Davis

Ellis County Republican Chairman
