BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) — A Southeast Texas man faces a kidnapping charge after alleging snatching his girlfriend's 2-year-old son and demanding a $2,000 ransom.
Beaumont police say the toddler was released unharmed and the boyfriend was arrested about two hours after the incident began early Thursday.
Officers booked Scott Allen Willis of Beaumont on charges of aggravated kidnapping, failure to identify himself and evading detention. Further details weren't immediately released.
Sgt. Rob Flores Jr. says Willis and his girlfriend argued at her apartment and he fled with the child. The woman contacted police to say her boyfriend had her son and a gun. Police say Willis called her demanding $2,000 for the child's safe return.
Police found Willis and the boy while searching a Beaumont apartment complex where the suspect's vehicle was located.
