SAN ANTONIO (AP) — An instructor at an Air Force base in Texas is facing various charges at a court-martial resulting from a sex scandal at one of the nation's busiest military training centers.
Tech Sgt. Christopher Smith faces up to a year in prison and a dishonorable discharge if convicted at his trial, set to begin Tuesday at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He's one of 15 Lackland instructors under investigation.
Charges against Smith include trying to develop a personal relationship with a trainee and obstructing justice.
Investigators have identified 38 female trainees as alleged victims.
Earlier this month, Staff Sgt. Luis Walker was sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted of rape and sexual assault.
