DENTON — Weather permitting, all main lanes of north and southbound I-35E will be closed between West Oak Street and McCormick Street beginning at 10 p.m. July 27, 2012 through 8 a.m. the next morning. Motorists will be diverted off of the highway and onto the frontage roads and will re-enter the highway at the next entrance. The highway closure is necessary for construction of a pedestrian bridge over the highway at the University of North Texas.
Motorist are encouraged to plan ahead and seek alternate routes to avoid a potential significant delay which could begin several miles in advance of the I-35 interchange along I-35E, I-35W and I-35.
On Saturday, July 28, 2012 construction will continue over the northbound and southbound frontage roads of I-35E between N Texas Boulevard and Bonnie Brae Street. The northbound frontage road will be closed from 4 p.m. through 6 a.m. the next morning and the southbound frontage road will be closed from 7 p.m. through 6 a.m. the next morning. The main lanes of the highway will stay open.
Portable changeable message boards have been placed to inform motorists of the closures and local police will be on site to assist with traffic control.
TxDOT appreciates the patience of motorists and encourages attention to all warning signs while crews work diligently to complete this project as quickly and as safely as possible.
Massana Construction, Inc. is the contractor on this $2.5 million project. The bridge is expected to be complete in September 2012.
