Just like the big league team with their same name, Waxahachie’s 8U Rangers have the potential for a big inning.
They got three of them Tuesday night en route to a 17-0 win against the Royals at Stevenson Park at the Optimist baseball fields.
The Rangers scored six in the first, five in the second and six in the fourth as they remained undefeated on the summer season.
The action started quick as the first seven batters each got hits to break the game open early. Austin Craft and Peyton Hutson started with back-to-back singles.
Evan Bullock then doubled to center to score Craft. Kaden Smith singled to left to score Hutson and put runners on the corners. Karsen Carpenter got the first of his three two-RBI hits as he drilled a ball to centerfield to score Smith and Hutson.
Hayden Wilson singled and Conner Pudgurney reached on a fielder’s choice that saw Carpenter get out on the way to third base. Caden Thorne and Mason Bryan hit consecutive singles to score Wilson and end the inning with a 6-0 lead.
The hits kept coming in the second inning as the first six batters all reached base. Dylan Jones got an infield single then Carsyn Rolland singled to left. Craft singled up the middle to load the bases and Hutson singled to right to score Jones.
Bullock also singled to right and his base knock plated Rolland. Smith then reached on a fielder’s choice that forced Bullock out at second, but scored Craft. Hutson and Smith came around to score again on a hit to right field for Carpenter to make it 11-0 after two innings.
The Royals’ defense stepped up in the bottom of the third and held the Rangers scoreless for the only time of the night. They then got their first hit of the night in the top of the fourth with a single up the middle by Payton Sebring. But he couldn’t get past first base.
In the bottom of the fourth, the hits continued to roll off the Ranger bats as all nine batters reached base before the game was called.
Hutson, Bullock and Smith all reached on infield singles. Then Jacob Drake singled to center to score Hutson.
Carpenter drove in Bullock and Smith with a double to left field. Wilson got a hit to left to score Drake.
Pudgurney singled to right to load the bases before Caden Thorne and Mason Bryan got RBI singles to end the game.
The Rangers (5-0) will play again at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday against the Angels (1-2) at Stevenson Park.
The Royals (0-5-1) will play again at 6 p.m. Monday against the Tigers (1-3) at Stevenson Park.
